In a shocking twist to the EastEnders Heather Trott murder story, her best friend Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) is set to propose to Phil Mitchell, the man who has been covering it up!
According to STV Entertainment website, the not to be messed with blonde decides to propose (for the 2nd time) to the menacing mechanic after starting to figure out that is was Phil’s (Steve McFadden) son, Ben (Joshua Pascoe) who killed her friend.
Fans of the show will know how Ben hit Heather with a photo frame a few months ago after flying into a rage thinking that she had told the police that he had lied in a statement framing his dad for murder.
After the murder, Heather’s fiancée, Andrew Cotton (Ricky Grover) was the prime suspect, but later cleared, leaving the case to go cold ever since.
Phil discovered Ben after the murder and helped cover up the crime, despite girlfriend, Shirley’s, persistence in trying to track down her friends killer. He thought that he had managed to cover up all the evidence and that Ben was home dry to getting away with the hideous crime, until Shirley stumbles across the photo frame used to kill Heather (which Shirley had given her as a wedding present) in a local charity shop.
When she reveals her finding to Phil before marching it down to the police, Phil starts to panick, but unfortunately for him it is the first piece of evidence of many that Shirley uncovers.
Eventually Shirley will have enough clues to piece together the truth and finally uncover what happened to her friend, but in a bizarre twist to the long-running storyline, she decides to propose to Phil in the hope that it will help unmask the killer.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: ”Maybe she thinks keeping him close will put her in the perfect position to spy on him and Ben.
”She’s not going to give up until she’s brought Heather’s killer to justice.”
A spokesman for the BBC One soap said: ”We never comment on future storylines as we don’t want to spoil the surprise for viewers.”
