EastEnders Spoilers: Carl White blackmails Ian Beale into lying to police & while Max Branning’s in prison, Carl blackmails him too! (VIDEO)

Next week, evil Carl White (Daniel Coonan) offers desperate Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) a way of wiping the debt he owes by agreeing to lie to police that he saw Max Branning (Jake Wood) tampering with the brakes on Carl’s car…

Carl is of course setting Max up to take the fall over the crash that led to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) battling for his life after being thrown from Carl’s car.

But will Ian do as Carl says and lie? Well, in a word, yes!

The drama begins on Monday, September 9, when, feeling guilty, Ian confesses to Denise (Diane Parish) that he is the ‘witness’, but fails to admit he’s lying for Carl.

Although shocked, Denise reassures him that going to the police was the right thing to do, making him feel worse. To help with the guilt, Ian takes some food to the Branning house, however Kirsty (Kierston Wareing) is suspicious of his apparent kind gesture.

Ian then becomes more worried when Kirsty tells Dot (June Brown) that the witness must be a set up, and Jack (Scott Maslen) will discover who it is. Later, Jack and Kirsty visit Max in prison, and promise him they’ll find out who’s behind the false witness statement.

Meanwhile, Carl reminds Ian that if he continues with the pretense, he’ll soon be debt-free. Ian warns him about Kirsty and Jack’s plan, however Carl’s unfazed and tells Ian he’s getting off lightly. Meanwhile, Denise tells Kim about Ian, and is horrified when Kirsty overhears.

On Tuesday, Ian’s at Scarlett’s when a panicked Denise reveals that Kirsty knows about his statement. Ian’s horrified and more so when, as he opens the door, he sees Kirsty approaching the restaurant…

He slams it shut but Kirsty angrily bangs on the door, and Denise convinces Ian to open it, just as Jack appears. Ian sticks to his story and says he’s telling the truth – he did see Max tampering with Carl’s car. Ian threatens he’ll report harassment of a witness if they don’t leave, and Jack concedes, much to Kirsty’s fury.

Later, when Carl visits her, Kirsty insists she’ll remain loyal to Max, and Carl promises he’ll leave her alone from now on. Meanwhile, Max returns to his cell and discovers a mobile phone waiting for him…

Max rings the number and finds out it’s Carl, and so asks him what he wants. Carl hints menacingly about Lauren’s safety as a panicked Max orders him to stay away. However, Carl retorts that he will leave Lauren alone, but only if Max tells Kirsty he’s guilty and then ends his relationship with her.

Later, when Kirsty visits Max in prison, she’s confused when he’s cold towards her and then shocked when he says that Ian’s statement is true – he did tamper with the brakes.

Kirsty doesn’t believe him but she’s left stunned when a pained Max ends their relationship.

Is it really over for Max and Kirsty? And will Ian ever tell the truth to save Max from prison?

Find out soon! For now, here’s a look at the next episode…
