Fans of EastEnders will know that Denise Fox and Zainab Masood are both interested in applying for the job of regional manager of the Minute Mart chain, and given that both ladies are competitive – despite the fact they’re friends – they’re set to play dirty with the aim of ruining the other’s chances of landing the job…
And in episodes that air as of a week on Thursday, we’re going to see teen mum Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) having something of a Solomon’s choice to make about her baby girl, Lexi.
More on that in a moment, but first, as to what Denise (Diane Parish) and Zainab (Nina Wadia) will get up in order to discredit the other, it all begins when Zainab finds out that Denise had enlisted the help of Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) to help her brush up on her interview techniques.
While simultaneously ridiculing Denise, telling her that she’ll come across as “too rehearsed” Zainab will enlist the help of her family to stage a mock interview so that she too can brush up on her interview skills…
However, when Zainab gets hold of message at the shop for Denise, informing her that the time of her interview has changed, she sees the perfect opportunity to scupper Denise’s chances by simply not passing on the message.
But when Denise gets wind of the ‘forgotten’ message, she manages to get to the interview on time, and while she’s there, she tells the interviewers that Zainab has “memory issues” which they then bring up during Zainab’s meeting!
So who’ll get the job? Well, we’ll have to wait and see, but also airing next week is the storyline mentioned above which will see Lola having to decide whether to put herself first, or her daughter Lexi.
It all begins when Lola calls round to Phil’s to ask if she can spend some time with her daughter, however, Phil (Steve McFadden) tells her that he’s taking Lexi to Cornwall for two weeks to visit with his mum Peggy…
Furious that she won’t see the baby for a fortnight, Lola rushes to her granddad Billy (Perry Fenwick) telling him to do something to stop Phil taking Lexi away. He then calls social worker Trish, who tells him that if they don’t let Phil take the baby, she’ll be taken into temporary care again.
Meanwhile, a livid Lola has told Dexter (Khali Best) about Phil’s plan, but he tells her that when he was a kid, he’d have loved to have been taken on holidays and to have had contact with his extended family.
So, that’s where Lola’s choice comes in; does she stop Phil from taking the baby just to spite him and exert some control? Or does she do what’s best for Lexi and let her go?
We’ll find out next week! For now, here’s a look at a scene from tonight’s visit to Walford, where a horrified Dot meets Max’s wife Kirsty!
