Newly single and desperately alone, Kat Moon is going to find a new best friend this New Year in EastEnders, in the unlikely form of Bianca Butcher, the Daily Star reports!
Fans of the hit BBC1 soap will know how cheating Kat (Jessie Wallace) was thrown out in the street by her long-suffering husband, Alfie (Shane Richie) after he finally discovered that she had been having an affair with Walford bully, Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) over this festive season.
However, Kat landed on her feet like, well a cat, as Derek picked her up from the gutter and vowed to look after her. That was until he keeled over and died of a heart attack on Christmas Day!
Now, with Alfie having already moved on to blonde bombshell, Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons), Kat is left with no home or income with which to support her young son, Tommy, so when a cleaning job becomes available at the R&R she jumps at the chance, but she isn’t the only desperate mum applying for it!
Bianca Butcher (Patsy Palmer) has been down on her luck ever since returning home from prison earlier this year, barely making enough in tips at Booty to cover food for her family, so she also sees the R&R job as a step up.
Sharon Rickman (Letitia Dean) decides the fairest way to appoint the job is to have both women clean the toilets, with the one with the best results being given the regular shifts at the club.
Bianca cannot hold her catty comments about Kat, especially when the cheating former landlady is given the job over her, but when Kat later turns up at her house and offers to job-share with the fiery red-head, a beautiful friendship is developed between the two Alfa-females of Albert Square.
An EastEnders insider told the publication: “Kat’s life is in tatters. She’s facing up to the fact she is a single mum and needs to provide for her little boy.
“She’s too proud to ask Alfie for any money and, after everything she’s put him through, she doesn’t feel she can turn to him.
“He’s moved on with Roxy Mitchell and she’s got to accept she lost the man of her dreams because of her own actions.”
What starts as a working relationship between Kat and Bianca soon develops into a deep friendship, and Kat finds a friend to turn to in her hour of need!
“They’re two single mums trying to do the best they can to raise their kids and both have disastrous track records when it comes to men,” the insider said.
“So you can imagine what they’re going to be like after they’ve had a few drinks.”
