Returning EastEnders star, Lacey Turner, has revealed how her decision to come back to the BBC soap was an easy one to make, because of the new producer, Dominic Treadwell-Collins!
Lacey was last seen on our EastEnders screens playing feisty murderer on the run, Stacey Branning back in 2010.
Her exit came shortly after her on-screen husband, Bradley’s (Charlie Clements) on-screen death, as the pair had made a pact to leave the show together should one of them wish to move on.
But now, four years after waving goodbye to her family as she jetted off to a new life away from the consequences of murdering Archie Mitchell, Stacey is set to return to Walford next week after her cousin Kat (Jesse Wallace) spots her on a London bus and tracks her down.
And the reason that Lacey is keen to return to the show that launched her career, is all down to new producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins, as she has revealed to The Radio Times in a recent interview.
Turner told the publication:
“I’m such a massive fan of Dominic’s. He was a huge part of Stacey’s writing. So when he came back to EastEnders and asked me to return, it was sort of a no-brainer.
“I trust him with Stacey’s life! To get the chance to work with Dom again – I didn’t even really need to think about it.
“I had a great time exploring how other places work. Everything is a lot slower and there’s a lot more rehearsal time. But I prefer the way we do things at EastEnders: doing 14 scenes a day and working at a pace. That works better for me.”
The actress, who has starred in several other TV projects since leaving Albert Square, went on to admit that she was nervous about reprising the role of Stacey, in case she had forgotten how to:
“Before I started filming again, I was pacing around my flat thinking, ‘What if I’ve forgotten what she’s like?’ Then I got to work and I was shaking doing my first scene.
“After that, it was okay because Stacey just sort of came out! It helped that my first scenes were with Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie. We always have such a laugh and Shane’s so funny.”
And if Turner has her way, there will be more Slater faces returning too:
“Having scenes with the Slaters is my favourite thing, though. It would be great if we could get Derek Martin and Gillian Wright back. And I’m just loving playing Stacey again – you don’t know what she’s going to do next.
“She could react to something calmly or she could blow up in your face. You just don’t know. She’s an unlucky rebel with a massive heart.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on BBC1 / BBC1 HD – Watch an interview with Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey in the clip below:
