EastEnders Spoilers: Lauren Branning finally faces up to the fact she’s got a problem with booze! (VIDEO)

Fans of EastEnders will of course know that Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) has had issues with binge drinking for quite some time now, and as we saw last week, it’s cost her her boyfriend Joey (David Witts) and several of her friendships…

However, for the most part, Lauren has always denied – even to herself – that she has any problems over addiction to booze, but following a frank chat with Patrick Truman this week, she finally confronts her demons…

The drama begins on Monday, May 20, when a dismayed Lauren sees all her former friends enjoying a night out together. So, wanting to show she’s not affected, Lauren invites her sister Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) out for the night. However, by the time Abi shows up, Lauren’s hammered and the night is a write off.

And things are made worse after Joey rejects Lauren’s drunken advances, leaving her hurt and humiliated once again.

Then, in the episode that airs on Thursday, May 23, Tanya (Jo Joyner) tries to talk to Lauren about her drinking, however, Lauren assures her that there’s nothing to worry about, and, faced with no other choice, Tanya accepts what her daughter said and encourages her to get more involved with college life. And in fact, she’s pleased when Lauren explains that she has a friend called Hannah who she’s going out with later in the week.

However, on Friday, having told Tanya she’s going out with Hannah, Lauren instead heads to the allotments with a bottle of wine, which is where Patrick finds her and joins her for a drink.

Lauren confides about her problems to Patrick and he urges her to go home and talk to Tanya. Lauren takes his advice and goes home where she proceeds to tell Tanya the truth, which is that Hannah doesn’t exist and the reason she drinks is because she knows she can’t live up to Abi in Tanya’s eyes.

Lauren then tells Tanya that she can’t remember the last time she went a day without alcohol, and the scale of Lauren’s drinking problem crashes down on her and her mother.
