Ever since the Carter’s arrived in Albert Square there was an obvious spark between daughter Nancy and Walford regular, Dexter Hartman.
Despite the fact that Nancy (Maddy Hill) was introduced to us on her wedding day, and the fact that when they first met she punched Dexter (Khali Best) in the face, fans have really warmed to the idea of a relationship between her and the young mechanic, but according to the actress who plays Nancy, she doesn’t know what the future holds for the pair.
Discussing her character’s romantic future with Dexter, who is played by an old friend of hers, Hill explained to Inside Soap:
“I genuinely don’t know. I actually went to drama school with Khali Best, so it might be weird – but nice.
“I’ve been asking Dom [Treadwell-Collins] to tell me what is going to happen, but he won’t say anything.”
At the moment Nancy’s jilted groom, Wayne, is still sniffing around her, but he is about to get his marching orders in no uncertain terms from Maddy next week after her mum makes a discovery about him, as Hill explained:
“Those scenes were too satisfying to film. Nancy’s not too bothered about Wayne at this point.
“She knows her parents don’t like him so Nancy was basically just vying for their attention. In any case, I think that Nancy’s always known she was too bright for Wayne.”
Meanwhile Nancy’s attention seeking has also forced her brother, Johnny (Sam Strike) to admit that he is gay, which has caused quite a stir amongst fans, but Hill was quick to praise her on-screen brother for his emotional coming-out scenes, adding:
“Sam’s a few years younger than me, but that boy is so mature, we don’t notice the age gap at all. As soon as we found out we would be playing brother and sister, I went and spent the day in Southend with him for a little bonding sesh.
“It’s nice to have someone who is going through exactly the same experience at the same time as you are.”
