EastEnders bosses have written in a real life ankle injury sustained by one of their actors, as part of a new storyline!
Fans were first introduced to Stan Carter, the absent father of Carter siblings Mick (Danny Dyer), Shirley (Linda Henry) and Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) earlier this year when the trio went to him to ask for money to help save the Queen Vic, which Mick owns.
Since then all we have really been able to gather about the reclusive old grump is that none of his children like him very much and that there are quite a few skeletons lurking in the Carter family cupboard!
But one bone in particular is making an appearance in the soap as Timothy West has broken his ankle in real life, and bosses have seen an opportunity to incorporate it into the storyline!
According to the Sun newspaper the storyline will see Mick have to move into the Queen Vic as a result of his accident, quoting the actor as saying on the subject:
“It was because of my own real injury, a broken ankle. When I did that, EastEnders wrote in an accident for Stan.
“Having your ankle pinned means you spend quite a lot of time in plaster.”
The actor went on to say how he was enjoying working on the soap (not sure how much we would enjoy working for a company that made us work on a broken ankle, but each to their own), as well as hinting that there is still more to discover about their turbulent pasts, adding:
“It’s all so complicated but we are finding out more about their past history.
“I’m constantly being surprised by new developments. It is all fascinating.”
