EastEnders star Charlie Brooks says “Janine doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body!”

As fans of EastEnders will know, Janine Malloy is not only about to get married, she’s also due to give birth, but as we reported yesterday, tragedy may await when she does…

However, Charlie Brooks, who of course plays toxic Janine, has revealed that she doesn’t think motherhood is going to change her character’s hard-nosed ways.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror about her current storylines on the show, Charlie – who’s taking a six month break from the soap in August – said, of Janine, “She is definitely a reluctant expectant mother.

“Janine knows she doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body. It will be interesting as she has never experienced unconditional love before…”

And when asked if the arrival of her baby may make Janine more “mellow”, Charlie said, “I certainly hope not! I love playing Janine as a Cruella de Vil character.

“It’s fun to be able to indulge in awful behaviour you just couldn’t get away with in normal life. Lots of people tell me that Janine and Michael are the most evil couple in soapland.

“I love Steve John Shepherd being my EastEnders fiancé, as we’ve hit a nice stride and get on really well.”

But despite the obvious problems between Janine and Michael, the most pressing being his forthcoming confession that he did rip off Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) and the next that he tells Janine he’ll only marry her if she rips up their pre-nup, Charlie thinks the couple’s relationship is “a love story.”

She said, “Obviously Janine has elements of doubt about Michael’s motives, hence the pre-nup…

”I think he was initially only interested in Janine because she is rich, but maybe his outlook changes in the future and his true feelings for Janine take him by surprise.

“This is ultimately a big love story.”

Don’t miss EastEnders tonight on BBC1 when Janine collapses!
