As fans of EastEnders will know, Tamwar Masood cannot forgive his wife Afia for keeping her father Yusef’s secret; namely, that he was the one who started the fire in Pakistan years ago that nearly killed Zainab Masood.
The climax of Yusef’s (Ace Bhatti) story of course came over Christmas when he died in the B&B fire, which he also started deliberately.
Tamwar suffered terrible burns in the fire, but despite the fact that he probably needs Afia’s (Meryl Fernandes) support more than ever right now, he simply cannot forgive her for keeping such a dark secret.
So next week, as Tam – who’s played by Himesh Patel – goes home after having been discharged from hospital, he must come to terms with his injuries and the possible end of his marriage…
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine about the plotline, Himesh said, “They love each other very much. But I think it’ll be very difficult and tense as they try to move forward.
“This problem has surfaced very early in their marriage, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
“Hopefully Tamwar and Afia can come out the other side stronger – but nothing is really guaranteed, is it?
“The consequences of what’s taken place are worse than anyone could have imagined…
“Tamwar ran into that fire thinking Afia was caught in it, and he feels so betrayed by her.
“In the past, he’s been stuck in the middle of everything going on around him. This time, it’s all come down on him – and through no fault of his own.”
And when asked if he thinks this could be the end of Tamwar and Afia’s marriage, Himesh said, “I never want Tamwar and Afia to get divorced.
“From the moment they married, Meryl and I have said we want them to be the couple who stays together.”
Catch the drama of Tamwar’s homecoming on January 16th.
