EastEnders love rat Max Branning has a notoriously difficult time of it when it comes to saying ‘No’ to beautiful women…

However, Jake Wood, who plays Max, has told All About Soap magazine that this time, when Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) tempts him into having an affair, he will stay loyal to his wife Tanya (Jo Joyner).

And as Jake explained, when Max returned to Walford, and found out Tanya had cancer, he promised to stick by her no matter what, and for a wonder, it seems he actually meant it.

His commitment is certainly going to be tested to the full next week when the all important results of Tanya’s latest MRI scan are back, which will reveal whether her cancer is in remission, or if it’s got worse and spread.

Of the tense moment Max and Tanya get the results, Jake said, “It’s a life-changing moment for all the family, and it’s affecting them in different ways…

“Lauren’s drinking more, and Max and Tanya are tiptoeing around each other.

“Max misses the old Tanya and is praying the scan’s clear so they can get back to some sort of normality.”

However, Jake added, “He promised Tanya he’d be there for her every step of the way, and he has stuck to his word so far.

“He’s committed to her, and he loves her no matter what – I’m sure he’d be there for her if they got bad news.”

And finally, of Max’s flirtation with Roxy, Jake said, “Rita and I couldn’t believe it when we got the scripts.

“It’s interesting to see them together – they’re both in strange places at the moment.”
