EastEnders star Ricky Norwood says real life heartache helps him cry on-screen

As fans of EastEnders star Ricky Norwood – who of course plays nice guy Fatboy Chubb – may know, his relationship with Sugababe singer Jade Ewen ended last September after the couple had been an item for two years.

And although Ricky was said to be “devastated” by the break up, he’s now revealed that he was able to channel his distress over it into a positive thing by recalling the emotion of it when he had to play scenes in EastEnders that required him to cry.

One instance that Ricky cited in an interview with Inside Soap was when Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) ditched Fatboy to go out with Tyler Moon (Tony Discipline).

He said, “Those scenes really choked me up. I was channelling feelings from my real-life break-up — it was like exorcising something…

“It was good for the soul and I was really proud of the episode when I watched it back.”

But of course, Fatboy’s storylines are often quite comedic, and in fact, Ricky has been nominated in the category of Funniest Male at this year’s Inside Soap Awards.

Of that, he said, “It’s an honour and a privilege.”

And apropos of those awards, newcomer David Witts, who plays Joey Branning, has been nominated in the category of Sexiest Male Actor, and it seems fans are more than happy to demonstrate to David just how sexy they think he is!

He revealed, “Some girls are mad — they just throw themselves at you. But it’s the older women you need to watch out for.

“I’m constantly having to make sure no one is squeezing my bum.”

Aww bless!
