EastEnders stars Jo Joyner and Nina Wadia want happier storylines!

The PA reports today that both Jo Joyner and Nina Wadia have expressed a desire for their characters to be happy for once!

Jo of course plays Tanya Branning, and Nina plays Zainab Masood, both of whom have been suffering rather depressing storylines for months; Tanya with her cancer and Zainab with her battle to return to normality after the horror of what Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti) put her through.

Beginning with Jo – who revealed that Tanya’s happier now she’s got the all clear over her cancer after an MRI – she said, “I’m doing some happy scenes – about three – it’s been nice.”

However, Jo added that there is yet the issue of Tanya’s troubled relationship with Max (Jake Wood) to be dealt with yet.

She said, “Maybe they’ll get on for a bit and have a nice time. But that wouldn’t be very dramatic or interesting…

“Walford’s quite a miserable place, but that’s part of the fun. It wouldn’t be dramatic would it, watching us all win bingo!”

On now to what Nina had to say about Zainab’s storylines, and in particular, the plotline that’s seen her becoming friends with Christian Clarke (John Partridge), she said, “I finally get to show the world she’s not a homophobe.

“It was very emotional filming those scenes with John Partridge. I’m hoping they lighten her up a bit now.”

Nina also revealed that she wants to see Zainab and Masood (Nitin Ganatra) reunited properly as man and wife.

She said, “I’ve known Nitin for about 20 years now – I think I’m more married to him than my own husband!

“It’s been really difficult not having him around.

“They’ve paired me up with Diane Parish for the Minute Mart stuff. I think they like the duo there, which is great fun and girl power, but I do miss working with Nitin.”

Would you like to see ‘happy’ plotlines in EastEnders? Or do you prefer it when they’re all on the brink of some disaster or another?
