Veteran EastEnders star Steve McFadden, who of course plays Phil Mitchell, has told Inside Soap magazine that his part in the cover up of Heather Trott’s murder is “one of the best storylines” he’s ever been involved with.
As fans will know, poor Heather (Cheryl Fergison) is going to be killed by Phil’s son Ben (Joshua Pascoe) next week, via the medium of a photo frame.
Phil will then help Ben hide the evidence of his role in her death, and will stage the murder scene to look like a burglary gone awry.
Of the storyline, and his part in it, Steve said, “I would say that this is one of the best storylines I’ve ever been involved in – and I’ve been here a long time.
“When we first got the scripts, I said to Josh [Pascoe], ‘There’s a scale of one to 10 when you get a storyline here, and this is a 10. So roll up your sleeves, because you’ve got a lot of work coming your way. It could be great if we get it right’…
“And I think we are getting it right.”
Part of Phil’s storyline in the murder is that he’ll hide the truth from his girlfriend, Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) who is of course Hev’s BFF.
And of that, Steve said that he hopes that if ever the truth comes out, it won’t spell the end of Phil and Shirley.
He said, “Phil and Shirley are great together – they’re a match made in heaven…
“But they split up and then they get back together again – that see-sawing always goes on.
“And if you want to have a career in soap, I think you have to embrace that rather than bemoan it.”
We’ll see Heather’s final episode on Monday, March 19 at 8pm on BBC1.
