Once again, EastEnders and its stars have triumphed at the TV Choice Awards which was held last night in London.

The BBC soap won the coveted Best Soap category, while stars Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie – who play Kat and Alfie Moon – were honoured with the Best Soap Actress and Soap Actor gongs.

However, EastEnders’ main rival ‘Coronation Street’ didn’t lose out at the ceremony, which was held at the Savoy Hotel, with Paula Lane taking Best Soap Newcomer for her portrayal of Kylie Platt.

The spectacular tram crash scenes, which celebrated the soap’s 50th anniversary, were recognised with the Best Soap Storyline award.

Elsewhere, another big winner was ‘Doctor Who’, which was named Best Family Drama. And Karen Gillan – who plays Amy Pond – won Best Actress for her role…

However, the current Time Lord portrayer Matt Smith missed out on the Best Actor accolade, which went to his predecessor David Tennant for his performance in ‘Single Father’.

Other winners at the ceremony, which was hosted by Ben Miller, included Jamie Oliver, whose ‘Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals’ was named Best Food Show, Jeremy Kyle, who scooped the prize for Best Daytime Show, and ‘The Apprentice’, which triumphed in the hotly-contested Best Reality Show category.

‘Britain’s Got Talent’ won a shock victory over ‘The X Factor’, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘Masterchef’ in the Best Talent Show group, while ‘The Cube’ was named Best Game Show, ‘Being Human’ was Best Drama Series and ‘Sherlock’ was named Best New Drama.
