EastEnders unveils new look website where you can GEL… apparently!

EastEnders has a swanky new website, which apparently “aligns” the site with the BBC’s Global Experience Language…

Yeah, I don’t have a Scooby Doo what that is either.

However, on the new site, it reads…

All of your favourite things are easy to find – but many of them are better! A few of the things we love the look of are…

The character pages, both past and present, have been fully revamped. The Weekly Quiz has been given a brand new layout. Oh, and the clips carousel on the homepage makes it really easy to find our recent video content!

Also, we’re going to be launching a couple of brand new exciting features really soon. We’ll let you know when they’re up and running!

The new site is similar in format and design to the overall BBC site, which to be honest, I don’t like at all, but it does seem to work better with the ‘Enders micro-site…

As to what the whole GEL thing is – and if this enlightens you, you’re a better man than me – apparently…

Building a Global Experience Language for the BBC

We are evolving a global experience language for the BBC’s digital services.
The GEL guidelines are a reference point for designing BBC services across Web, Mobile, iPTV and Tablet

And…

The design philosophy underpins everything we do as a user experience and design team. It informs the way our services look, the way they behave and the way we operate as a team.

Okkkk, so you go figure out what that is, and I’ll put the kettle on. Please do share your findings with us ;-)
