As we reported recently, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is to be arrested on suspicion of murdering his former fiancé Stella Crawford (Sophie Thompson) and only one person could stand up and defend Phil against those charges…
His son Ben (Joshua Pascoe) who, though he didn’t see Stella actually jump to her death on what should have been her wedding day, could provide evidence of how mentally unstable Stella was.
However, as we now know that Ben was the mystery stalker, we also know he’s not beyond lying through his teeth to the police, and if he chose to deny that Stella ever abused or hurt him, Phil would have no defense case at all.
So what will it be? Will Ben try to get his dad off the charge by telling the truth, or will he give evidence – or withhold evidence – that could see his dad walk away a free man?
Well of course, that remains to be seen, but in forthcoming episodes, when Phil once again humiliates Ben, the troubled teen might just be pushed that bit too far…
As viewers will know, Ben and Jay (Jamie Borthwick) have been working on an old car, fixing it and turning it into a stock car racing contender.
But next week, when Ben tries to drive the car in front of several of the Square’s residents, he stalls it, and a laughing Phil humiliates him by ordering Jay to drive instead.
Later, still enraged and upset by his dad’s mocking, Ben gets in touch with DCI Marsden (Sophie Stanton) – who has been desperate to get Phil locked up for years – and tells her that he now wants to change his statement over what happened to Stella.
A show insider told the Daily Star, “Yet again Phil embarrasses him in front of everyone.
“It makes him want revenge once and for all.”
Don’t miss all the action in next week’s episodes of EastEnders!
