Ever since the news leaked that Walford baddie Derek Branning was to die over Christmas, it has of course prompted a Who Killed Derek frenzy, with bookmakers taking odds on who will be his killer…
However, the BBC haven’t actually revealed the manner and mode of Derek’s demise as yet, so he could die of natural causes, such as a heart attack, or of course, he could even commit suicide!
And today, bookie William Hill are running odds of 9/2 that he will do just that!
Previously – assuming he’s going to be murdered – a number of suspects were mooted, such as Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) if he finds out that Derek (Jamie Foreman) has been having an affair with his wife Kat (Jessie Wallace).
It was also suggested that his son Joey (David Witts) may kill Derek, given that he’s blackmailing him and his lover Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa). Or of course, Lauren could do it! After all, she tried to kill her own dad once.
Then again, it could’ve been someone who has no regular role, such as one of these infamous Manchester based villains who Max (Jake Wood) has to keep paying off.
However, What’s On TV quote William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly as saying, “There are a number of storylines unravelling in which Derek could be involved…
“And it may all get too much on Christmas Day.
“It is thought that Derek will be largely involved in the current storylines surrounding Alfie and Kat, as well as those involving Max and Tanya.
“And there will certainly be a number of suspects when Derek is offed.”
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC1, and as you can see in the clip below, it’s the day of the custody hearing…
Are you going to have a bet on Who Killed Derek? And do you think he may in fact commit suicide?
