Next week, Zainab Masood (Nina Wadia) is going to finally confess that she lied and told evil medic Yusef Khan that his daughter Afia was in the B&B when it was on fire…

As fans will know, Yusef (Ace Bhatti) rushed into the burning building to rescue Afia (Meryl Fernandes) who was of course nowhere near the B&B, and he subsequently died when the building collapsed.

And of course, Zainab’s son Tamwar (Himesh Patel) also raced into the inferno, similarly believing his mum’s lie and fearing that Afia was trapped…

So, unable to bear the weight of the guilt she feels over the fact that Tamwar suffered horrible burns that night – and having received a cheque for £100,000 from Yusef’s estate – she finally confesses that she knew Afia wasn’t in the B&B, and only wanted to send Yusef in there to end his reign of terror over her.

And not unreasonably, Afia reacts to the news with horror and fury, and orders Tam to take off his shirt to show his mother the extent of his awful burns.

As emotions run high, Masood (Nitin Ganatra) pleads with his family to remember the examples quoted in the Koran about forgiveness, and about appeasement, to which end, Zainab hands over the cheque from Yusef’s will to Denise and Kim Fox – who are played by Diane Parish and Tameka Empson – who are stunned by the generous gift.

However, back at home, Tamwar has decided he can no longer bear to be in Walford, and he vows to leave there and then. Zainab rushes to catch him at the Tube station, but can she convince him not to go?
