Eddie Izaard signed for NBC’s The Munsters / Mockingbird Lane?
NBC have reportedly made their first singing for their new remake of The Munsters.
TV Line have been reported that British star Eddie Izzard has signed on to play the role of Grandpa for at least the pilot of the new series. TV Line report that the comedian and cross dresser is keen to take on the role, made famous by Al Lewis in classic 1960’s version of the family friendly show.
The reboot will be named Mockingbird Lane, a reference to the Munster family address at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Production is expected to begin in summer 2012, with the pilot airing early in 2013.
Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller will be behind the new version and has promised to bring some “spectacular visuals” to the revamp.
The show will be darker and edgier than the original and will explore the origins of the Munster family, while still bringing a comedy element to the script.
For those expecting the same garish costumes, as are memorable from the classic series, there may be some disappointment, as sources have previously stated that both the costumes and make-up for the characters will be heavily toned down to resemble humans.
In the states, Eddie is probably best known for former FX series ‘The Riches’ in which he and British actress Minnie Driver star as a married couple, Wayne and Dahlia Malloy.
In January 2012, he appeared as Long John Silver in Sky1’s adaptation of Treasure Island alongside Elijah Wood and Philip Glenister among others.
He will hit the big screen once more this summer, in upcoming action fantasy drama film Snow White & the Huntsman where he will take on the role of Tiberius.
