Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) leaving Grey’s Anatomy!

Ellen Pompeo has admitted that the upcoming season will be her last one on Grey’s Anatomy.

Pompeo has played Meredith Grey on the hit medical series since it’s launch in 2005 but revealed that she has always said that eight seasons would be her limit.

She told Extra:

“I haven’t said I’m moving on. I said that when my contract is up after season eight, I would probably not renew. I think the world has had a lot of Meredith Grey.”

However Ellen doesn’t think the show needs to end, just because she’s not on it. The 41 year old star told TV Line that she is happy for her younger co-star and on-screen sister Chyler Leigh, who plays Lexi Grey on the ABC series, to become the new ‘Grey’ in Grey’s Anatomy.

“If that’s what Chyler wants, and that’s what everyone wants, of course!” she added.

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has recently claimed that the eighth season of the show will return it’s focus to the original cast members, admitting that it may be the last time some of them appear on the series.
