Ellie Goulding scored her first UK Number 1 single on Sunday – yes, seriously, that was her first and it seems that she is set to hold on to that title for another week.
According to information released by The Official Charts Company the 26 year old is currently out selling her competition Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine) by Klangkarussell FT Will Heard which currently sits at Number (2) by almost 5,000 copies.
Goulding took the pop crown for the first time since her career took off in 2009 after her new single Burn, taken from her new album Halcyon sold 117,000 copies in the week leading up to the point where the UK Top 40 is revealed to the country on the radio.
In the short time Ellie Goulding has been around the singer songwriter has had ten singles in the UK Top 40 and both her albums – Lights (2010) and Halcyon (2012) made it into the Top 5 in the UK album chart – Number (1) and (2) respectively.
It seems like by the time we get to Sunday again Ellie Goulding will still be at the top of the mountain and will be crowd Number (1) for another week.
This weeks Number (2) looks set to be Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine) by Klangkarussell FT Will Heard which puts Avicii into the Number (3) spot with Wake Me Up. Completing the Top 5 this week we have Earthquake FT DJ Fresh/Diplo and Dominique Young Unique at Number (4) and the Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness at Number (5).
Elsewhere in the midweek chart update it seems like Sean Paul is set to return to the Top 10 this week with his new single Other Side Of Love which is taken from his untitled sixth studio album. This is the follow up to his collaboration What About Us? with The Saturdays which gave the girl group their first UK Number 1 single earlier in the year.
Can we get a zig-a–zig–ah as former Spice Girl Melanie C is returning to the charts with her first Top 10 single since 2005. The former Spice Girl is pairing up with 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle for a duet of Loving You. The track is currently at Number (10) on today’s update.
