Ellie Goulding seemingly can’t be moved from the top of the charts

Ellie Goulding remains at the top of the UK Singles Chart for a third week in a row with her new single ‘Burn’ according to The Official Charts Company.

The singer/songwriter who scored her first ever UK Number (1) single with ‘Burn’ three weeks ago still can’t believe she’s top of the charts.

Ellie Goulding spoke with BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills in an interview which was aired during BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart Show today (1st September) and spoke about how she never expected ‘Burn’ to remain top of the charts or for it to stay there for three weeks.

Speaking with the Radio 1 DJ Ellie said: “It feels amazing, but weird. Weird because I didn’t really expect it to be Number 1, let alone for this amount of time!”

“I feel very lucky, because it wasn’t like I released it in a quiet week of mediocre songs,” she adds. “There are some big smashes, so I’m really happy.”

Not only did Ellie Goulding knock Miley Cyrus off the top of the charts with ‘Burn’ but she has kept away the returning Lady Gaga with her new single ‘Applause’ from taking the crown.

Ellie continued: “I didn’t think I had a chance in hell about getting a Number 1 with Avicii’s song around, and Gaga, and Miley,”

“I was surprised! Lady Gaga WILL be Number 1 at some point.”

Elsewhere in the Top 5 ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii holds strong at Number (2) while ‘Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine)’ by Klangkarussell featuring Will Heard remains at Number (3) for yet another week.

Cedric Gervais’ remix of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness moves to Number (4) while ‘We Can’t Stop’ by Miley Cyrus completes the Top 5 this week.

Looking at new entries into this week chart it seems like those Rizzle Kicks boys have had this week’s highest new entry with their fifth Top 10 hit ‘Lost Generation’ which enters the chart at Number (6).

Shane Filan who was a member of Westlife has entered the charts this week with his first solo track ‘Everything To Me’ which enters the chart at Number (14).

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are also returning to the chart this week in at Number (25) with their new hit ‘Same Love’ which features Seattle-based singer Mary Lambert.

The 1975 also enter the chart this week at Number (34) with their latest single ‘Sex’.

Bastille have also entered the Top 40 this week with ‘Things We Lost In The Fire’ taken from their debut album ‘Bad Blood’. The track  enters the Top 40 at Number (39).

Kanye West re-enters The Official Singles Chart Top 40 this week at Number (40) with his track ‘Gold Digger’ which originally got to Number (2) back in 2005.
