It’s Ellie Goulding vs Beyoncé on this weeks Official Albums Chart
It’s Wednesday and looking at the Official Albums Chart it looks like Ellie Goulding has some tough competition from Beyoncé.
Over on the Official Singles Chart it’s pretty certain that Pharrell will return to the top with ‘Happy’ with 1,000 copies separating him and Pitbull/Ke$ha but it’s even closer on the Official Albums Chart. However we’re only on Wednesday and going into Sunday ‘Anything Could Happen’ as Ellie Goulding has sang on many occasions.
According to the Official Charts Company though Ellie Goulding has a tough fight on her hands if she wants to remain Number (1) with ‘Halcyon’ as Beyoncé is coming and is currently at Number (2).
Only 700 copies separate Ellie and Beyoncé who shocked the world when she released her self titled studio album back in December 2013.
While the self titled album from Beyoncé proved successful it didn’t shoot straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart and has seen a gradual climb going into this weekend.
Ellie Goulding and her second album ‘Halcyon’ went to number one last weekend after first being released in October 2012.
To date, according to the Official Charts Company ‘Halcyon’ has sold almost 665,000 copies since being released in October 2012.
For Beyoncé however, after only releasing her self titled album on Friday the 13th of December she has managed to sell almost 232,000 copies in the UK so far and hasn’t moved from the Top 5 on the Official Albums Chart.
Elsewhere in the Official Albums Chart at this midweek update Gary Barlow has moved one place to Number (3) with ‘Since I Saw You Last’ while John Newman climbs into Number (4) with his debut album ‘Tribute’.
Bastille and their debut album ‘Bad Blood’ return to the Official Albums Chart this week at Number (5).
Kid Ink (pictured above) is set to make his Official Albums Chart Top 40 debut this Sunday with his second full-length album ‘My Own Lane’ which is at Number (30) today.
