Elton John was recently awarded with the first BRITs Icon Award on a special show on ITV1 hosted by Dermot O’Leary.
The musician whose career spans almost 50 years also performed at the iTunes Festival last week and his Top 10 downloaded tracks were released by the Official Charts Company.
Speaking in an interview recently though the star has spoken about Lady Gaga and his relationship with the ‘Applause’ singer.
Musical legend Sir Elton John has indicated that he has concerns for Lady Gaga because that persona seems to be far too dominant in her life.
Speaking with ‘The Austrailian’ the star explained how various pop stars end up in dangerous territory when they allow their alter-egos overpower who they really are.
The ‘Crocodile Rock’ star said: “With Gaga – who I love, she’s the godmother to our children – I’d like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can’t get through to her.” ”
“And there are times when you have to listen. When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place.”
He continued: “Once you have people around you who don’t question you, you’re in a dangerous place. When you get famous you get complacent. You stop listening to new things.”
Elton John also said that Lady Gaga on releasing her new album ‘ARTPOP’ in this stage of her career should be looking towards a sound that is more stripped-back:
“But my album’s sound reflects the fact that all the things I love at the moment are stripped down. Lorde had a big US hit with a song called ‘Royal’.”
“It’s just her voice and a drum machine, and it’s beautiful in its simplicity. It’s the kind of direction Gaga should be going in.”
