Embarrassing Illnesses New To Channel 4
The Embarrassing Illnesses clinic is open for business to tackle the medical problems that people would rather ignore than take to a doctor. Nothing will be too shameful or shocking, as this new series explores the conditions and ailments that leave many of us a little red-faced and aims to de-stigmatise common complaints.
Three doctors - Dawn Harper, Christian Jessen and Pixie McKenna - will be throwing open the doors of the clinic in a bid to tackle each condition head on, while attempting to take away the sting of shame.
First through the Embarrassing Illnesses (EI) doors to see Dr Jessen is 55 year old Nick. Having suffered with painful haemorrhoids since his early teens, it’s only now that he can face the shame to see a doctor.
A horrifying 50% of people will suffer from piles at some stage of their life. Caused by blood vessels in or around the anus being put under pressure and swelling to form lumps, Nick has a severe case and there is only one option - surgery!
The new procedure is effectively a ‘face lift down below’ and tucking everything back should leave Nick with a more comfortable recovery period.
The clinic is full of patients who have overcome their embarrassment in a bid to rid themselves of some excruciating problems, however Alex has been sent in by his partner. With a case of athletes foot that he’s had for over two years, his girlfriend has finally had enough of sharing her boyfriend and her bed with the ’stilton’ like condition. But it’s no laughing matter, 1 in 5 of people suffer from Athletes Foot and if left untreated it can develop into a much more serious infection.
But the doctors’ work is not confined to the clinic. Each week they will be hitting the road, tackling one specific issue, and this week it’s testicular cancer. Whether it’s down to embarrassment or not, men are far more unlikely to visit a doctor than women, so Dr Jessen heads down to Moseley Rugby Club to persuade the team to take their health seriously. 90% of testicular cancer cases can be cured if they’re picked up early enough, so the team lose their inhibitions along with their towels and strip down to the bare essentials.
Also through the clinic doors are Charlotte who is not sure what is normal down below, 20-year-old Victoria with a worrying case of inverted nipples, Nicky who suffers from excessive gas and 46 year old Dave with a skin tag problem.
Nothing will be too embarrassing for the medics at the frontline of fighting blushes as they investigate the UK’s most Embarrassing Illnesses.
The show launches on Channel 4 on Thursday 17th May, 8.30PM

Pleased to read that it is three qualified doctors doing this programme and not as on Sky they had people who were not medically qualified.
Good luck with programme and shall watch now that have found out it to be different from sky one.
