It’s Wednesday so that can only mean one thing, it’s time for the Official Albums Chart mid week update before the chart is locked down on Sunday.
‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ by Eminem has been one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year and according to the Official Charts Company if sales continue he could be on course to score one of the biggest selling albums of 2013.
If Eminem can keep ahead of the competition and scores a Number 1 with ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ on sunday then this will be the rappers seventh UK number 1 album and it’ll also be one of the biggest selling albums of 2013.
The album only went on sale yesterday (Tuesday 5th of November) and it sold a staggering 73,000 copies according to sales data released by the Official Charts Company.
Fun fact… ‘Random Access Memories’ by Daft Punk is currently the fastest selling artist album of 2013 after it racked up sales of more than 165,000 in its first week on sale back in May.
James Arthur is currently at Number (2) on this weeks Official Albums Chart with his self titled debut album while Tinie Tempah enters the chart this week with ‘Demonstration’ which is currently at Number (3).
Andre Rieu & Johann Strauss Orchestra’s ‘Music Of The Night’ is currently at Number (4) while Shane Filan (formerly of Westlife) is currently at Number (5) with his debut solo album ‘You And Me’.
Taking a look at new entries this week in addition to the top 5 which are all new entries there are a total of six new albums this week according to the Official Charts Company.
The Overtones return to the charts this week with their third Top 10 album ‘Saturday Night At The Movies’ which is currently just outside the Top 5 at Number (6).
Meanwhile at Number (7) on the Official Albums Chart is The Wanted with their new album ‘Word Of Mouth’. Avril Lavigne’s self titled fifth studio album is at Number (11) today.
New entries this week are completely by ‘The Best Of Nickelback Vol. 1’ at Number (16), ‘The Very Best Of Bob Dylan’ at Number (21) and ‘Antiphon’ by Midlake at Number (22).
‘The Next Day’ by legendary musician David Bowie is this weeks highest climber on the Official Albums Chart after it soared a staggering 85 places from Number (99) into Number (14) this week following the release of the deluxe edition.
‘Red’ by Taylor Swift has also climbed 43 places this week into Number (17) following her performance on the X Factor this past weekend.
