There have been 95 deaths in the village since it began airing back in 1972 on October 16th, and included in that tally are the 6 deaths by shootings, accidental or otherwise, 10 murders, 8 suicides, 38 accidental deaths, 30 deaths by natural causes and 3 deaths that happened in mysterious circumstances.
The show has featured 57 funerals, and it’s a wonder one of those hasn’t been Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) given that there have been four attempts on his life!
On the happier subject of the village’s marriages, in the show’s history, we’ve seen more than a hundred proposals, and though 70 weddings were planned right up to the walking down the aisle, only 56 of the couples ended up actually married.
Zak (Steve Halliwell) and Lisa (Jane Cox) have so far enjoyed the longest of Emmerdale’s marriages, having been together in holy wedlock for 14 years.
Other wedding trivia from Emmerdale includes the fact that there’ve been 17 wedding receptions held in the Woolpack, 7 brides have legged it on their wedding days, there have been 3 sham marriages, and 15 couples have married more than once.
The most married of all the characters is Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) who’s notched up 6 weddings to 4 women and had 7 kids.
Not bad for a tiny village eh?
We’ll bring you more 40th trivia and news soon!
