As fans of Emmerdale will know, factory boss Jai Sharma is facing a horrible dilemma; tell his wife Charity – and risk losing her – that he had a drunken one night stand with Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) and she’s now expecting his baby, or keep mum and risk Charity finding out anyway…

And of course, Rachel has told Jai that she won’t allow her child to be his “dirty little secret” but she has agreed, for now, to move into a flat in Leeds that Jai is going to pay for while he summons up the cahones to ‘fess up to Charity (Emma Atkins).

So of course, the longer the pregnancy remains a secret, the better things are for Jai, but in an upcoming episode, when verbal incontinent Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) remarks that Rachel must be up the duff, given she’s only drinking water in the pub, half the village becomes apprised of her baby news.

Which puts much more pressure on Jai.

Chris Bisson – who of course plays Jai and who is soon to become a dad in real life too – has been talking to Soaplife about the plotline, and how things might pan out for Jai if/when Charity finds out about the baby.

He began by saying, “Jai’s having a baby with the wrong person.

“He’s dug himself a big hole He’s paying the price for the whole tangled web of lies.”

And of how Jai intends to juggle being a dad to the baby while keeping it a secret, Chris said, “I don’t think he’s thought it through. He’s trying to do right by Rachel by telling her not to abort the baby – and he’s trying to do right by Charity and Noah by protecting their home life.

“He’s also trying to do right by himself because he wants a baby and Charity refuses to have one with him.

“He’s trying to make everything OK for everyone, but that’s not going to happen.

“He’s tried to tell [Charity] several times, but he just can’t bring himself to do it. He’s living day by day, hour by hour.

“There’s no long-term strategy for coping with this revelation.”

Finally, when asked how Charity will react when she does learn the truth, Chris said, “What she’ll do is anyone’s guess, but the longer it goes on the more dramatic it will be.

“We’ve all talked about how Charity would react and whether there’d be any way of Jai and Charity staying together once she knew.

“I think probably not.”
