Following the revelation that her Emmerdale character is about to have the truth over her child’s paternity exposed, Gemma Oaten has announced her decision to leave the award-winning ITV soap.
Oaten came bounding on to our Emmerdale screens as the slightly chavy aunt of Amelia Spencer before the rest of her sister’s family arrived in the village back in 2011, and has been welcomed into the hearts of fans ever since.
Seeming to be obnoxious and lairy at first, Rachel soon showed her softer side when dealing with her sister, Ali (Kelli Hollis), her lesbian lover and two children.
Then came the heat-warming love that blossomed between the cleaner and Sam Dingle (James Hooton) which saw the two best friends finally come together as a couple, something that every fan in the country wanted to see.
Then last year Rachel shocked everyone when she had a one-night stand with her factory boss, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) which left her pregnant with his child.
Little Archie is an infant now, and to cover his real father’s identity the entire village has been lead to believe that Jai’s father Rishi (Bhasker Patel) is the real daddy, but all that is about to change in an upcoming storyline.
The proverbial is about to hit the Emmerdale fan as Jai’s wife Charity (Emma Atkins) discovers the truth about the baby and her husband, and amidst all the drama, Rachel is to make a dramatic exit!
Bosses at the hugely popular soap, which picked up the award for Best Soap at the Inside Soap Awards earlier this month, are keeping Rachel’s exit storyline closely under wraps, but an insider has confirmed Oaten’s decision to leave to Digital Spy.
Meanwhile Oaten’s on-screen boyfriend, James Hooton who plays Sam Dingle, said this about the storyline earlier this week:
“It’s just a matter of time and I think that it’s going to come down to who actually breaks the news in the end.”
