Emmerdale star, Gemma Oaten, has revealed that she thinks it would be good for her character if her parents were to pay Rachel and her sister Ali a visit.
Gemma play Rachel Breckle, who fans will know is expecting the love child of her married boss, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson), unbeknown to his wife, Charity (Emma Atkins), in the ITV1 soap.
Rachel and Jai had a one night stand a few months ago, whilst he was trying to come to terms with the fact that his wife had told him she did not want any more children. After initially being shocked at Rachel’s news, Jai soon realised that this was his only chance to have the best of both worlds, and tried to his baby-mama away in a luxury flat so he could secretly be a part of his child’s life.
However, Rachel soon realised that this wasn’t the life for her and so instead moved into a cottage in the village, making Jai’s plan a little less plausible now, especially when his father found out about the whole situation.
Now, with the baby on its way, Rachel is still urging jai to come clean about her to Charity so that their child can get to know him and not be confused, but whilst he mulls that over, Gemma Oaten, who plays Rachel in the hit ITV soap, has said she thinks that this would be a good time for her characters extended family to come into the show to help support her!
So far viewers have only met her sister Ali (Kelli Hollis) and the rest of the Spencer clan, and not much has been said of the girl’s parents except that their mum was a bit of a drinker and not there for them much, so it might seem that Kerry (Laura Norton) could have a new drinking partner!
Discussing Rachel’s upcoming stories, Oaten told Inside Soap’s Yearbook 2013: “The baby plot is a big one and will go on for a while. But what I’d really like is to find out a lot more about Rachel’s family, maybe even meet her parents.
“We’ve had hints of her and Ali’s mum not being there for them very much and being a bit of a drinker. And we know their dad wasn’t around very much. So it’d be interesting to see that side of things.”
With regards to the situation with Jai, Oaten continued:
“Rachel does want Jai to tell Charity – she doesn’t care if Charity wants to kill her, she’s not going to live a lie. But as you’ve seen so far, it doesn’t quite pan out like that.”
