Emmerdale fans will know that factory boss Jai Sharma faces heartache and worry this Christmas after his baby boy Archie born prematurely and faces a battle to live…
And of course, because – so far anyway – only the mother of the baby Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) and Jai’s dad Rishi (Bhasker Patel) know that Archie is Jai’s, he’s also got to somehow manage to maintain a cheery festive façade while being desperately worried about his gravely ill son.
However, by the time New Year rolls around in the village, Jai will be finding it all too much to cope with, especially after Rachel tells him that he can have nothing more to do with Archie…
So it’s no surprise then that his wife Charity (Emma Atkins) is anxious to know what’s bothering her distracted husband, and that anxiety turns into a mission after she walks into the factory and sees Jai has his dad pinned up against the wall!
As Charity demands to know what’s going on, both Jai and Rishi lie and say that their spat was over something and nothing, but Charity becomes determined to get the bottom of things.
She even accosts Rachel in the village and offers her money to tell her anything she knows about what’s going on with Jai.
She’ll tell a shocked Rachel, “The cleaner always knows what’s going on!”
But an affronted Rachel will tell Charity where she can stick her money and add that she has no idea what’s wrong with Jai.
So, on January 3rd, having got nowhere with her enquiries among the villagers and Jai’s own family, Charity will decide she can’t put with her husband’s moods.
She’ll decide to move out, telling Jai, “Something’s killing you. Something’s eating you up, inside.
“And if you don’t trust me enough to tell me what it is. There’s no point in us talking any more.”
So is it all over for Charity and Jai? Even if she doesn’t find out the truth about Archie?
Find out in the New Year, but for now, here’s a reminder of ITV’s Christmas trailer, which features a very drunk Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) passing out, right into her Christmas dinner!
