Emmerdale: John Barton will die in horror car crash!

by Lynn Connolly

As fans of Emmerdale will know, James Thornton is leaving the show, and his role as farmer John Barton, and according to the Sun’s TV Biz, the character will be killed off in an horrific car crash.

The paper reports that it was for those scenes that the show’s cast and crew were recently seen filming what was described as a “big dramatic stunt” on the Yorkshire moors.

It seems that the character of John will die in the wreckage of his car when it plunges off a cliff.

The paper adds, “Bosses filmed the scenes in the middle of the moors in a bid to keep the storyline a secret.

“But passers-by say they spotted a battered car with a roll cage attached, newly planted trees and shrubbery as well as ropes at the opening to a quarry.”

A show insider said of the storyline, “Everyone’s putting a lot of time and care into this…

“We want it to be a massive episode for us.”

The show’s producer, Stuart Blackburn, recently promised a bumper year in terms of drama, and of the Barton family specifically, he said, “The Bartons have been fantastic. After everything they went through with Holly it finally looked like they were making a success of things. Then in stepped Cain.

“The one thing that is crystal clear between Moira and John, whoever did what to whom, they absolutely adore each other.

“There’s going to be some very moving, powerful, heartbreaking drama coming up in 2012 that’s about the whole family, not just John and Moira.”

And of course, Sophie Powles, who plays Holly Barton, recently announced that she too is leaving the show, but it remains to be seen if her character will be killed off also.

The fatal car crash is expected to air in February.
