Emmerdale: Layla Harding (Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi) latest to leave the Dales?
It would seem that Emmerdale will have to start advertising for new cast at the rate the current ones are departing, and Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi, who plays Layla Harding, is the latest one to announce her intention to leave.
The actress, who has played farm shop owner, layla, for over three years, has reportedly decided to not renew her contract which is up at the end of this month, according to The Daily Star Sunday.
Rokhsaneh, who will film her final scenes at the end of this month, confirmed to the paper: “I have had an amazing three years at Emmerdale and it has been a really tough decision to leave.”
This news comes just days before viewers will see Layla’s long term partner, David (Matthew Wolfenden) propose to her.
Since joining the show, Layla has been part of many big and deep story lines, including sibling rivalry with her on screen sister, Alicia (Natalie Anderson), who’s son Jacob was the biological result of a one night stand between Layla and Alicia’s husband, Justin, and was subsequently raised as her own with Jacob and the rest of the village none the wiser.
ITV Execs are remaining tight lipped about Layla’s departure, although a source teased : “There will be more than one broken heart when she goes.”
