Emmerdale: Mark Charnock says Marlon has always wanted a family of his own, and Lucy Pargeter on her real life wedding drama!

As fans of Emmerdale will of course know, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Marlon Dingle have rekindled their love for each other now that Laurel’s separated from shamed vicar, Ashley (John Middleton).

However, since being forced to go public with their relationship – after Paddy (Dominic Brunt) angrily announced it to the packed pub – things haven’t been going smoothly for the couple, particularly with Laurel’s step-daughter Gabby, who hasn’t taken kindly to her mother’s new boyfriend.

But nonetheless, Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon, has revealed that even with the drama over Rhona (Zoe Henry) having taken baby Leo to New Zealand, and all the angst with Gabby, Marlon has never been happier than he is with Laurel…

And in upcoming episodes, when Laurel struggles to keep on top of her rent and bills, Marlon suggests to her that she and the kids should move in with him.

Of that, Mark has revealed that although the circumstances are somewhat stressful, Marlon’s delighted that he finally has his own little family unit.

Of Marlon and Laurel setting up home together, Mark explained, “They’re incredibly close, they’re a real unit.

“They’re together now, they really feel together, they’re in love, they’ve got each other’s backs and they’re really being the support for each other in their situations.

“[Moving in together] solves a lot of problems; she’s got problems paying her rent, because Ashley hasn’t got any money coming in and she hasn’t got enough money coming from the factory…

“So on a practical level it makes sense, but on an emotional level, he wants to be with her all the time, he wants a proper relationship, it’s been a long road for them.

“Even though it’s quite a jump, it’s quite a leap into the unknown, he feels in his heart of hearts it can work.

“He’s always wanted a family and he’s not trying to steal Ashley’s family away from him.

“He just wants them all to be together.”

And of course, another villager who’s desperate for the stability of a family of her own is Chas Dingle, who is of course rather unadvisedly marrying Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) simply because he worships her and she believes he’d never cheat on her.

But in today’s Sun, Lucy Pargeter, who of course plays Chas, has revealed that on a recent trip to Dubai with her fiancé Rudi Coleano – the couple have a seven year old daughter – they nearly got married on the spur of the moment.

However, Lucy revealed that she didn’t think her friends and family would be overly impressed if she had.

She said, “We were in Dubai about a month ago and we said: ‘Sod it, while we’re here, let’s do it.’

“Then I thought all our mates would be like: ‘Oh cheers, thanks for the invite.’”

We will of course see Chas marrying Dan during Emmerdale’s 40th anniversary live episode.
