Emmerdale: Samantha Giles: “Bernice is back to cause havoc!”
Giles is returning to reprise her role as Bernice Blackstock and has commented how her character will cause “havoc” upon her return to the village.
Bernice will be back on our screens in November, with Samantha recently returning to set to begin filming. On a Daybreak interview this morning, Giles confirmed that her characters motive for returning is to reunite with her daughter, Gabby.
Giles commented: “I think [she's back] to cause a bit of havoc and re-bond with Gabby. It’s a good time for her to come back, because there’s been so much going on with Ashley.
“It’s great for me – it’s great to be asked back. I’ve just had a new baby. I take her with me, she’s only 11 weeks! She’s very good and she’s very placid, so it’s working out well so far.”
Discussing Bernice’s traits, the 41-year-old continued: “She is very selfish. I don’t think she necessarily means to always be that selfish – I think she’s been brought up as an only child and sometimes that can make people a bit selfish, can’t it?
“But she’s got a very kind heart as well. She just puts her foot in it, and she comes back and she puts her foot in it left, right and centre!”
Fans of the hit ITV soap will know how Gabby is currently living with her father, Ashley (John Middleton) after Bernice abandoned them both when she was a baby. Gabby has been in a high-end storyline recently which has seen Ashley separate from her step mother, Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) with Gabby rebelling against the woman who has raised her since a small child after she let her new partner, Marlon (Mark Charnock) move into their family home, giving Bernice the perfect opportunity to swoop in!
Whilst already back in the studio Giles will have to sit in the wings tomorrow evening as her colleagues take to a live TV stage to present their hour long live anniversary episode. Speaking of the mammoth task, Giles praised all those involved, saying:
“I think they’re all very brave. I’m relieved that I’m not part of the live episode! There’s so many big things happening – it’s going to be very exciting. I can feel there’s been a big buzz going on building up to it.”
Watch Emmerdale tonight at 7pm on ITV1/ITV1 HD (with the Live episode airing tomorrow from 7pm.)
