As fans of Emmerdale will probably know, Gennie Walker is about to find out she’s pregnant, but the prospect of the pitter patter of tiny Sharma feet horrifies the poor girl because she knows that her boyfriend Nikhil doesn’t want children.

However, while speaking to Soaplife about the plotline, Sian Reese Williams, who of course plays Gennie, revealed that when her character does finally tell Nikhil (Rik Makarem) that she’s pregnant, we’re to see “some really nice scenes.”

But before Gennie works up the courage to tell Nikhil her news, she works herself up into a high state of anxiety that won’t be doing her or the baby any good!

Sian said, “[Nikhil’s] always going on about how he doesn’t want children.

“I think she’s got a lot of questions that need answering about the relationship – where they’re at and whether there’s any future in it – before she can tell him anything…”

However, the normally somewhat dense Nikhil knows there’s something up with Gennie, but he just can’t figure out what it is.

Of that, Sian said, “He thinks it’s stress – and comments she has put on weight, which she deals with really badly.

“He’s noticed that there’s something going on but he definitely doesn’t put two and two together.”

Sian went on to reveal that her half-sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter) keeps urging Gennie to just tell Nikhil and get it over with, but Gennie’s not finding it that easy to spill about her news.

Sian remarked, “She tries to [tell him] but every time she does, he says something that reinforces her feeling that he’s just not going to take it very well.”

However, when asked “Is there any way Nikhil could be happy about the baby?” Sian replied, “Well, after he does find out his reaction is a surprise to her – it’s not what she expects from him at all.

“There’s a bit of a rocky road ahead before they get to that point, like when after he finds out, which is really fun and we did some really nice scenes with that, which hopefully people will enjoy.”

It is of course expected that the birth of Gennie and Nikhil’s baby will coincide with the show’s anniversary celebrations in October.
