As we reported this week, in a forthcoming episode of Emmerdale, Andy Sugden is set to share a kiss with Amy Wyatt (Chelsea Halfpenny) who is of course his girlfriend Kerry’s daughter!
The surprising plot twist occurs at Adam Barton’s (Adam Thomas) birthday party when Kerry (Laura Norton) gets drunk and lairy, embarrassing Andy.
He’ll leave the party to go and collect his kids from Amy – who’s babysitting while her mother enjoys the revelry – and when he tells her how badly her mother’s behaving, she’ll decide not to attend…
She and Andy then get chatting about Kerry, and things take a romantic turn when Andy compliments Amy on how she looks and they then share a kiss.
Speaking to Soaplife about the plotline, Kelvin Fletcher, who of course plays Andy, began the interview by explaining, “Andy, Kerry and Amy are meant to be going to the party together…
“But then Debbie suddenly dumps the kids on Andy – like she keeps doing. Andy’s annoyed, but Amy volunteers to look after the kids. Andy’s made up.
“He’d been looking forward to having a few beers and letting his hair down.”
He then added that Kerry has “a few too many” and continued, “She’s getting drunker and drunker and louder and louder and more flirtatious.
“She starts dancing around suggestively and Andy’s mortified. She completely ignores him when he asks her to calm down so he storms home.”
Amy offers Andy a sympathetic ear, and one thing leads to another! Kelvin said, “She empathises with Andy when he explains why he’s back early.
“Then Andy compliments her because she looks different to her usual self. She’s dressed up for the party and not all grungy.
“She’s pleased and surprised that he’s noticed. Unfortunately, Amy thinks Andy’s making a pass at her and goes to kiss him.
“But, instead of letting her down gently, Andy surprisingly kisses her back!”
When asked if Andy regrets the kiss, Kelvin said, “This is the thing… I don’t know.
“The kiss surprised Andy and makes him start to think differently about Amy. He’s never looked twice at her before.”
But of course, things are set to be awkward between Amy, Kerry and Andy after the illicit kiss!
Of that, Kelvin said, “Andy’s on eggshells that Kerry will find out and says it was just a little kiss that shouldn’t have happened and it doesn’t need to go any further.
“Amy’s distraught when he says the kiss was a big mistake and it meant nothing.”
But does he mean it? Could Andy be tempted to have an affair? Well, of that, Kelvin said, “Possibly, but it would be a recipe for disaster.”
We’ll see that drama in upcoming episodes, but for now, here’s a look at what’s ahead this week…
