Emmerdale star Charlie Hardwick can’t see a future for Val and Eric Pollard

While appearing on Daybreak yesterday, Emmerdale star Charlie Hardwick revealed that she doesn’t think her character Val Pollard is likely to reconcile with her estranged husband Eric in any kind of a hurry.

As viewers will of course know, Val bogged off to Portugal for three months, wiping out Eric’s bank account in the process and leaving him heartbroken.

However, life began looking up for Eric (Chris Chittell) when he started a romance with Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) and of course, when it came down to choosing between Brenda and Val, Eric chose Brenda, and the couple are currently off enjoying a well earned holiday…

In reality, Val’s exit was in order to enable Charlie to star in stage play, The Awkward Squad, which told the tale of three generations of Tyneside women who were brought together for “a very special moment.”

However, of the likelihood of a Val and Eric reunion, Charlie said, “Do you know, I don’t know how it’s going to pan out.

“I daren’t look at what’s coming next! But I know that I’m not with Eric.

”I think Val just assumed that she would just swan back in, there’d be a bit of an argument and then everything would be fine.

“But he’s got a new lady friend!”

And while discussing how she’s enjoying begin back on the set of the rural soap, Charlie – who’s also starred in Byker Grove and comedy film Purely Belter – said, “I thought that I was going to be a bit like, ‘Oh, I don’t like getting up in the mornings’ – which I don’t!

“But I like being back very much – I’ve surprised myself.”

Finally, on the subject of Val’s recent smack in the nose from Alicia Gallagher (Natalie Anderson) Charlie said, “I’m rubbish at stage fighting so I’m surprised that came out so well!

“But Natalie who plays Alicia, she’s great – she timed it brilliantly.”

Would you like to see Val and Eric back together? Or would you rather see him stay with Brenda and Val being a singleton?
