Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley describes his perfect weekend and his hopes for Cain Dingle

by Lynn Connolly

Jeff Hordley, who of course plays Cain Dingle in Emmerdale, has been telling the Daily Mirror what his ideal weekend consists of, and it’s a far cry from whatever his alter ego might get up to on his days off!

He also told the PA that he hopes Cain survives the vicious beating he’s about to get in the village, but more on that in a moment.

First, when asked what a typical Saturday involves for him and his co-star wife Zoe Henry – who plays Rhona Goskirk – and their children Violet and Stan, Jeff said, “We usually do something related to the outdoors then eat a nice meal together.

“We’ve got an allotment so we might spend some time down there or give our dog Rita – a five-month-old spaniel-poodle mix – a good walk in the countryside, then all come home and watch a film together.”

And when asked about the last time he partied on a weekend, Jeff said, “Graeme Hawley, who played Corrie murderer John Stape, had a great stag weekend…

“It was a brilliant laugh and one of those great times where everything comes together.

“A group of us went to the Green Man Festival, so we were in a great place with good company.

“[But] I don’t do many big nights out these days. I’ve done my share of partying and I’m more of a homebody now. I’m nothing like Cain, put it that way!”

As to what would be his perfect weekend, Jeff said, “If it was a weekend away without children, I’d love to take my wife back to Italy, where we’ve had a really special time in the past, on the Amalfi coast.

“It’s extremely beautiful and the food is out of this world. There are places built into the hills and it’s very cool, it’s got a real 1950s/1960s feel.”

And as to what he hates about weekends, Jeff said, “Shopping” but then added, “I don’t hate it but let’s say I’d rather not spend my free time standing about in shops.

“Isn’t that what the internet was invented for?”

Too true Jeff!

Back now to Jeff telling the PA that he hopes Cain survives his Judgement Day attack, which we’ll see on December 8th, he said, “I hope this isn’t the end of Cain! I’m hoping he’s the cat with nine lives that just keeps coming back.”

Jeff went on to reveal that he’s had a rather radical haircut in order to make Cain’s head injuries look as realistic as possible.

He said, “The powers that be upstairs said I have to have a haircut and asked me how I felt about that.

“I could have said no, and had a skullcap. But this is a great storyline and I’m going to embrace it, so I had a bit of a funny haircut for about eight days.

“The bosses have told me it has got to grow back as soon as possible. There’s a make-up scar that takes about half an hour to put every time.

“It’s like a big question mark on my left side, so they want to grow it back. In the show, I am wearing a hat now for about six weeks.”

As Record Breaker host Roy Castle might once have said, “That’s dedication…”
