Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher says Andy Sugden feels “immensely guilty” after sleeping with Debbie Dingle

As fans of Emmerdale saw in this week’s episodes, Andy Sugden and Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) went to a hotel together to have sex, which is of course in the hope of conceiving a baby who could potentially donate bone marrow to their ill daughter Sarah…

However, Debbie and Andy – who’s played by Kelvin Fletcher – didn’t tell anyone about the liaison, and especially not their respective partners, Cameron (Dominic Power) and Alicia (Natalie Anderson).

Then, when Cameron told Debbie that he would have left her if she had slept with Andy, Debbie knows she can never reveal that she did in fact have sex with Andy.

Meanwhile, Andy is developing a new crush on Debbie – they were of course teenaged sweethearts – unaware that she feels as though she’s prostituted herself in order to persuade Andy to try for a baby the way nature intended.

But, because of his feelings towards Debbie, which prompted him to finally end his on-off relationship with Alicia, Andy’s now feeling “immensely guilty” about the whole subterfuge

Speaking via the show’s official website, Kelvin explained, “Keeping this secret, the secret being that he’s just slept with Debbie in a hotel room and he’s starting to get feelings for Debbie, he feels immensely guilty about that.

“He is well aware of what he is doing to Alicia and how much it’s upset her. That’s why he said, ‘I can’t keep doing this to you’, and I think he is genuine.

“This poor girl loves him and what he’s having to put her through – he knows himself it must be heartbreaking.”

And of where the relationship between Andy and Debbie might be headed now they have slept together, Kelvin said, “Who knows? [But] despite what Andy has been through and how he comes across a lot of the time, I don’t think you can dispute that he’s got a big heart.”

Don’t miss next week’s episodes in which we’ll see Debbie wondering if she should tell Andy the truth – that she is only sleeping with him for a baby, and not because she has any feelings for him.
