Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden would “love to see David and Alicia together”

As fans of Emmerdale will know, Alicia Gallagher has been smitten with David Metcalfe for weeks now, but each time she’s tried to tell him how she feels, she’s bottled it…

And now, as she’s about to go to prison for assaulting Val Pollard (Charlie Hardwick) it seems that she might never get the chance to tell David that she’s in love with him.

However, when David suggests that he and Alicia should get married, only so that he can legally be entitled to have custody of her adopted son Jacob, Alicia (Natalie Anderson) is over the moon…

She of course realizes though that David doesn’t have the same feelings for her that she has for him, so when her ex Justin reveals to her that he won’t fight David for custody of Jacob, Alicia conveniently forgets to mention that to David!

So, the couple will get wed while she’s in prison, but what will David say and do when he finds out he was hoodwinked into the wedding?

Well, that remains to be seen, but Matthew Wolfenden, who of course plays David, has revealed that he’d love it if his character and Alicia became a real couple.

Speaking to Inside Soap about the plotline, Matthew – who used to earn a living as a David Beckham look-a-like – said, “To be honest, he’d probably run a mile if he realised how she really felt about him!

“He certainly wouldn’t be getting down on one knee for her.”

But he added, “Personally, I’d love to see David and Alicia together. There’s been a brilliant build-up to all this, and it’s so well-written.

“David’s totally oblivious to the reality of the situation. But if those two were to get together properly after Alicia comes out of prison, it could actually be the perfect fairy-tale ending…”

And of David’s proposal to Alicia, Matthew revealed, “Alicia’s utterly shocked! He sees her as a good mate, and he’s doing this for little Jacob.

“David’s just being practical – and let’s face it, he hasn’t completely moved on from Leyla at this stage.”

Leyla is of course Alicia’s sister, to whom David was engaged before she left the village – and him with a pile of debt – last year.
