Emmerdale star Sammy Winward says Katie will say ‘Yes’ when Declan proposes to her… again!

Things between Emmerdale lovers Katie Sugden and Declan Macey were going ever so well, until Declan’s nephew Robbie arrived on the scene that is – he is of course Megan’s son who she had adopted when he was a baby – and ever since, Robbie has been goading and annoying Katie to the point where she gives Declan an ultimatum…

The drama between Katie and Robbie (Jamie Shelton) comes to a head when he gets physical and menacing towards Katie after she sets him up in an attempt to prove to his mum Megan (Gaynor Faye) and particularly Declan (Jason Merrells) just how vile the newcomer is to towards her.

However, Katie’s to be left furious when, having shown Declan CCTV footage of Robbie turning nasty on her, he STILL refuses to throw Robbie out of Home Farm…

So, quite prepared to carry through her threat, Katie starts packing, but just as she’s about to leave, Declan stuns her by revealing a huge and clearly very expensive engagement ring, and proposing to her.

Sammy Winward, who plays Katie, has been talking to What’s On TV about the plotline, and of Declan’s proposal, she said, “This is the third time he’s asked her to marry him.

“She thinks he’s just joking to get her back to the house at first.

“So she’s like ‘Thanks for the offer, but I’m going to go and have a bath now’, she’s very cool.

“She says, ‘Come and join me if you want.’

“She’s not leaving and he’s like, ‘No seriously I want to marry you’, and he gets out this beautiful diamond ring, which is ridiculously big, and of course she says yes!”

Sammy went on to reveal that Katie’s delighted that she’ll now have that extra security of actually being married to Declan, but she added that she does genuinely love him too.

She said, “I think she definitely, genuinely does [love Declan].

“I think if she didn’t, she would have walked away a long time ago, because they have been through a lot of struggles, and him closing down a lot, and being very cold to her at times when he was going through Mia dying.”

Finally, of what might happen between Robbie and Katie now, Sammy joked, “We’ll probably have an affair next year – I’ve no idea what will happen.

“But they won’t make up any time soon.”
