A smitten Marlon Dingle [MARK CHARNOCK] is pained when Rachel goes on about him and Laurel Thomas [CHARLOTTE BELLAMY] and he impulsively tells her she looks beautiful when she enters to check out the cake before the party. He’s gutted when Ashley Thomas [JOHN MIDDLETON] repeats his compliment to Laurel and watches, conflicted, as she gives him his birthday present of a photo album full of pictures.
