Emmerdale’s Matthew Wolfenden says David is “too flippant” over marriage vows

As fans of Emmerdale will know, David Metcalfe and Alicia Gallagher are going to marry next week…

But of course, for David at any rate, it’s only a marriage of convenience and has the sole purpose of ensuring that he can then care for Alicia’s son Jacob when she’s sent to prison for assaulting Val Pollard (Charlie Hardwick).

For Alicia however, who’s played by Natalie Anderson, things are rather different, because she is actually in love with David.

However, though David is of course doing Alicia a huge favour by marrying her, Matthew Wolfenden who plays the shopkeeper reckons that his character is a fool for being “too flippant” about committing to marriage.

Matthew, who is of course married to Charley Webb, who plays Debbie Dingle – the couple have a son together – said, “I’m totally different to David and take the marriage vows really seriously…

”He’s so flippant about it and thinks they can get a quickie divorce, but I couldn’t do that. It’s daft.”

However, a couple of weeks ago Matthew – who competed in the last series of Dancing On Ice – revealed that he’s hoping for a “happy ending” to David and Alicia’s story…

But any thoughts of an end to their relationship, happy or otherwise will have to wait until Natalie returns to the show after she’s taken her maternity leave. She is of course expecting her first baby, a boy, later this year.
