Empathy Launches On BBC One

Stephen Moyer (Lilies), Heather Peace (The Chase) and Mark Womack (Sorted) star in a new, feature-length supernatural drama.

Written by Steve Lightfoot, Empathy centres on Jimmy Collins, an ex-con locked away for a violent attack, whose paranormal visions assist the police in the hunt for a murderer.

On his release from prison, Jimmy suddenly starts to experience visions when he touches people. He sees what they see. While he struggles to rationalise this unnerving ability, he attempts to forge a relationship with his daughter, Amy, whom he hasn’t seen for years after divorcing her mother, Sarah, when he was first sent to prison.

When he brushes past a man on a station platform, Jimmy receives a vision that gives him a unique insight into a high-profile murder case. At the police station, DI Will Benson discounts Jimmy’s story and immediately suspects that he is involved with the murder, but DI Jo Cavanagh is increasingly convinced that Jimmy’s visions might provide vital clues to the identity of the murderer.

Jimmy Collins is played by Stephen Moyer, Amy by Amber Beattie, Sarah by Amanda Douge, DI Will Benson by Mark Womack and DI Jo Cavanagh by Heather Peace.

Empathy was very good, really enjoyed the whole thing. I’m really hoping that a series will be made from this. Excellent

Great series, and a worthy replacement of Jekyll. Look forward to the coming episodes.

really enjoyed the show but missed the last 5 mins. What was the last vision that Jimmy saw?

  5. alan Says:

loved the sex wished there was more of it

It was good drama up to the last moments, which seemed to have been put there purely to enable a follow-up series, eg: Jimmy and Jo ge ttogether but she has serious issues, meanwhile ex-wife Sara tries to reconnect with Jimmy, who then reveals the real reason for the divorce was to protect her. Could be good!

Think your self lucky Michaela, I wished I’d have missed the last 90 minutes. Why do they have to leave it so there could be a follow up - what’s wrong with having a drama with a start , middle and end?
The last vision appeared to concern DI Cavanagh in a torture scene so it may be that Jimmy can now see into the future. I’ll stick to The Wire.

I have never felt the need to comment on any tc series, drama or movie before but i have to say i found Empathy screened Saturday (4/8/07) night excellent. Story line, acting and over all production was brilliant, the only down side is that i understand it is a one off as aposed to a series. I’m not alone in the thought that if it were to become a series it would have a huge following.
My recomendation to the BBC is to continue with it, and to the general public to watch and be entertained, intigued and amzaed by a rare quality in the making.
    Kind regards
    Dee

Really enjoyed this, very rare that I can be bothered to invest 90 minutes of my life to sit through a drama – really glad I did.

Does anyone know if & when more episodes are planned?

At last, the beeb have rediscovered how to make a programme that is both engaging and entertaining. I felt it was excellent. I hope the powers that be will develop this pilot into a rivetting drama with a twist that has been missing from its scheduling for years.

it does make a change for the bbc to put something on worth watching instead of some of the rubbish on sat night come on make it worth staying in for get a series going you might make your ratings go up abit and then we can say it’s worth paying for a licence

Funny how its taken a year to screen in NZ but it was worth the wait, I do hate not having the closure in a movie what a tease!!!!
