John, who played medic Dr Tony Gates in ER, will play the role of dentist Carl Howell.

In an interview with E! Online about his new role, John said, “I’m at the gym right now working out.

“I’m singing and dancing every day. All day. So I hope they let me sing and dance a little.

“I started watching the show when they goofed on me and fell in love with Glee…

“I find it to be a celebration of diversity and I’m proud to be joining that whole extremely talented team.”

However, when asked what his storylines in the hit comedy would be, John said, “Frankly, none of us have seen any of those pages.

“As we are speaking, the writers are just writing these scripts.”

John will appear in the show in the autumn.
