EXTREME: SKINNY CELEBRITY MUMS 2

In the second of LIVING’s Extreme: Skinny Celebrity Mums series, this brand new special reveals the ever-increasing quest for new celebrity mums to return to their ultra-thin post-pregnancy selves. Celebrities such as Jordan, Myleene Klass, Desperate Housewives’ Marcia Cross, Isla Fisher and Mel B, are popping back into shape quicker than ever and the pressure is on for new mums in the public eye – and subsequently new mums everywhere. But how does the body cope under these quick fix weight loss regimes and just what price are they willing to pay to for fiercely battling for that perfect post baby bod? Extreme: Skinny Celebrity Mums 2 features former pop star and TV star Lisa Scott Lee, who after the birth of her first child certainly felt the pressure to lose weight quickly and get back into the public eye. In this one-off programme Lisa strips off into a bikini for a photoshoot just 6 weeks after the birth.

Lisa Scott Lee said: “It’s all getting a bit extreme. I do feel the media puts pressure on celebrities. The reality of it is, is that image is a big part of what I do. You know, I’m loving motherhood and it’s a wonderful thing and it is far more important than how much weight I’ve put on, and lost.”

Lisa’s former Steps band member and new mum, Claire Richards, also discusses her thoughts on pressures to stay thin, her highs and lows on the scales over the years, and her battle to stay thin when in pop band Steps: “It’s such an insecure world and an insecure business. I always thought I was the fat one.”

One celebrity who knows what it’s like to be hounded about your weight in the public eye is Vanessa Feltz: “No one knows how it feels like to be in the media spotlight until they have had their vast arse flashed all over the front page of a magazine, and I’ve had that happen to me on numerous occasions.”

Can having a baby enhance your career? For some celebrity women, it seems so with lucrative deals on offer if they can lose weight fast enough to promote an album, perfume, book, new baby range or front a swimwear ad campaign. It’s no longer seen as the end of their careers, but for some a publicity and career boost that can only help their careers – making the fast-track to weight loss even more important.
