Britain is now officially the fattest country in Europe, with 67% of men and 58% of women overweight, and a third of those clinically obese. Now American comedian Steve Daly, himself suffering from obesity, wants to give us a much-needed wake-up call in Fat Man’s Warning. The show will air on Channel 4 this May.
Tipping the scales at 30 stone, this larger-than-life funnyman boasts an 80-inch waistline. He hasn’t been able to wear shoes for two years and needs a machine to keep him breathing while he sleeps. And Steve’s weight is no longer a laughing matter. Having recently had a heart attack in front of a full house, Steve’s had a reality check.
Although we think the USA has a much larger obesity problem than us, the grim truth is, we’re heading in the same direction. Steve has given himself two weeks to come to the UK and warn as many people as he can that we are sitting on an obesity time bomb. After all, if no action is taken now, one million children will be obese by 2010.
