First look at new EastEnders character, Derek Branning!
As fans of EastEnders will know, we’re about to meet the oldest Branning brother, Derek, when he rolls up in Walford next week.
He has Derek in tow, and it’s soon apparent that Derek’s about as welcome as a pork chop in a synagogue, as not only do his own family fear the hard man, he has some old scores to settle in London too…
The first of the family to voice their displeasure at seeing Derek is his sister Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson) who tells him to steer clear of her, wanting nothing to do with her big brother.
Tanya (Jo Joyner) isn’t at all pleased to see Derek either, and her sister Rainie (Tanya Franks) evidently has some uncomfortable history with him. Ditto Pat Evans (Pam St Clement) who is horrified to see Derek on the Square…
Back in August, when it was announced that Jamie would play the role of Derek, a show spokesperson said, “Out of all the Brannings, Derek is the one that most people fear.
“Although he can be charming, he will be the one that can out-alpha almost any man in Albert Square – maybe even Phil.
“He is going to cause a lot of disruption to his family.”
Jamie, who is the son of notorious Kray brothers’ associate Freddie ‘Brown Bread Fred’ Foreman, has previously starred in a number of films as well as TV roles, and he’s almost always a baddie!
He played the role of Duke in the 2004 film Layer Cake, and was Bill Sikes in Roman Polanski’s adaptation of Oliver Twist in 2005.
Don’t miss his grand entrance on EastEnders’ Branning Week on Monday at 8pm on BBC1.
